I was not feeling to well and Carol wanted me to see a doctor and I wanted to finish the cabin before deer hunting started.

or is it three. They are still out there
playing "Hide and Seek".
So I went back out to the trailer on Nov. 7, 99 and left early so I could watch the football game and do some minor stuff around the cabin. This involved moving some heavy furniture. When I got up on Monday morning my back was hurting and thought that I had pulled a muscle in my back or groin. I was so sick that I was afraid to drive home. Brian Mets and his girl friend brought me back to Beloit. I had called Carol and told her I was coming back to Beloit, and I wanted her to make me an appointment with my Chiropractor, which she did. He told Carol to get me to the hospital as he thought that I had a stroke.
We made an emergency appointment with my family doctor, and he took one look and he put me in the hospital, which was on Nov. 8, 1999. I stayed in the hospital for 28 days. (Needless to say, there was no deer hunting for me that year).
More deer hunting

On Nov. 9th, they found that I had E-Coli, which had caused my kidneys shut down. I had surgery which enabled them to put in a shunt so I could go on the dialysis machine to filter my blood. I had my first dialysis on Nov. 10th, and we thought that was all.

The dreaded Dialysis machine
Picture taken April 11, 2001
Each Dialysis patient has two nurse assigned, a primary and a secondary. The primary nurse is responsible for your records and keeping you informed of anything that is not right. My primary nurse is Lila Jorgenson, and my secondary is Kim Draeving. This does not mean that the primary and secondary are with you for the length of time you are on the machine. In my case, it is three and a half hours. The dialysis center is open 6 days a week Monday through Saturday including most holidays from 6 in the morning to around 9 at night. They do close for Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. The current center has 9 machines, however they are in the process of building a new center. It is scheduled to open sometime in July. This center will have 18 machines so I think we are going to have some pretty busy people there.

The three individuals shown above are specialists in their fields and makes a bad situation a little easier to bear.
However they continued to run tests, upper and lower GI Series, and found some other problems.
They discover that I had 2 bleeding ulcers and 1 that was not bleeding. I then started taking medicine for that little problem.
They continued testing as they felt I was not recuperating as fast as I should. They found a tare in my bladder, which was allowing my stool to mix with my urn, and had to start taking medicine to cure that, (I was actually poisoning myself when the two mixed) which did not cure the problem.
I started having a lot of discomfort in my chest and sharp stabbing pains. They had a heart specialist and he diagnosed me as having congestive heart failure. Had to start wearing a Nitro patch and had to keep nitro pills with me Thankfully, so far I have not encountered more difficulty with the heart.
During the test this time and because of me complaining of pain in my lower stomach, they discovered that my left testicle had deteriorated to the point that it was noting but mush, and it had to be removed.
I was released from the hospital, but had to have an in home nurse visit me 3 times a week. This did not last long as I was back in the hospital after about 10 days as there was no improvement.
They decided that I would have to have a colostomy, and back to surgery again. That was in July.
During the period I was sick I went from 185 pounds down to 118 pounds (don't try this on your own).
(I will try to get this finished)
Feb. 23, 2001. Doctors wanted to put me in the hospital again today, something to do with new moan ya. I declined their invitation as I am not ready for a vacation. If it gets much worse, I will have to take the vacation I guess.
Feb. 24, 2001. Just received a call from my Doctor concerning the new noan ya, don't have it but there is a little rebel bacteria bug trying to outlast the antibiotics. Don't know the name of the bug, but it might be Johnny.
On April 8, 2001. I discovered blood in my Colostomy Pouch and was passing blood thru the rectum. Went to the emergency room at the hospital and was admitted. Several tests were ran including a Transesophageal Echocardiogram, but nothing was found other than a bleed ulcer that could have caused the problem. Ha, fooled them again.
April 20, 2001. Went for a check up today with my family, DR Rudisill, and was informed that at this time all was going well. I have his permission to do some yard work, and to have a beer if I want one.
April 23, 2001. Seen DR Charles (he is a surgeon) today and I now have an appointment to have this colostomy reversed on the 1st of May. I will have had it for a little over 9 months. Think it is now someone else's turn, but I don't wish that on anyone. Will probably be in the hospital a little over a week, after about a 2 hour operation. Maybe things will go a little better for me now.
May 17, 2001. We are sadden to report that Jerry passed away, peacefully and free from pain, on May 7, 2001.
