I was reassigned to Detachment 1, 327th Fighter Group, Hulman Field, Indiana in 1965 and was assigned duties as Chief Clerk.

While at Hulman Field which is in Terre Haute, Indiana we met Mollie and Gene Dudgeon. Spent a lot of time with them playing cards and just talking. Carol and Gene worked together at the Humane Society and Mollie is a school teacher.

In 1967, I was transferred from Hulman Field, to the 6984th Security Squadron (USAFSS), Shemya, Alaska, and was again working in the communications field. Another lonely Christmas.

There is just not enough to be said
about this place, lots of room,
beautiful scenery, and friendly natives.

Rumor had it that if you really got tired of the island, you
could drain it down and start walking home. Wanted to try it
a couple of times, but resisted.

The island is so small that it did not have anything (not even a tree) there except the military and few civilians who worked in the mess hall, so I spent most of my off duty time working in the NCO Club. In 1968 I was transfered back to Germany with TDY to San Angelo to attend ALK 29232 Training (Radio Printer).
