As you can guess, this was the beginning of some wonderful times, and we continued to enjoy them until I retired from the USAF. Don't think that life for Carol and I was a bed of roses. We had some pretty hard times, spend a lot of time apart, did a lot of traveling and missed our families. For many years they encouraged us to do as we thought we had to do.
In 1956, I was transferred to the 6910th Radio Group Mobile (RGM) in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Initially I worked in the Mail room waiting for a top secret clearance. When the investigation was completed. My security clearance was approved, I was then transferrer to Wiesbaden, Germany and assigned to Detachment 3, 6912th Radio Squadron Mobile (RSM).

Carol stayed with her parent's and worked at Lucile's Cafe until she and Ed joined me in Germany. We remained friends with the owners of this cafe until they passed away.
Upon completion of my tour, we transfered to Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio and was assigned to Headquarters, United States Air Force Security Service (Hq USAFSS) from where I was subsequently transfered to Detachment 1 AFSCC, Brooks Air Force Base, also located in San Antonio, in November of 1960.
Carol was working as a waitress at Tex.'s Restaurant in San Antonio. She would work the second shift while I watched the young ones. I also worked for about a year at Bearden's Ice House, located on the south side of town as we wanted to buy a house, which we did not get at this time because of a reassignment.
In December of 1962, I was reassigned to HQ 6917 Radio Group Mobile in with TDY enroute for training on the FLR9 antenna systems. The 6917 RGM is was located in Brindisi, Italy. The family and I had a pretty lonely Christmas that year as we were separated again.

I had been in Italy about six months when word came through the Red Cross that Carol was quite ill with Rheumatic Fever and in March 1963 I was authorized 30 days emergency leave. Carol was hospitalized where she remained for about 6 weeks. I was then granted a humanitarian reassignment and was transferred from Italy to the 327th Fighter Group at Truax Field in Madison, Wisconsin. While there, I was assigned duty in the administrative field at Group Headquarters.
When Carol was released form the hospital we found a farm house for rent just outside of Brooklyn, Wisconsin. We rented out the upstarts to a young couple who would watch the children when Carol and I were working at the same time. Carol had pestered the doctors until she received permission to return to work. She worked at a restaurant in Oregon, Wisconsin. The restaurant is still thereabout now has different owners.
I had several Administrative Assistance TDY's to Detachment 1, 327th Fighter Group, where eventually I was reassigned.
