I joined the US Air Force in March of 1954, and attended basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas. In May, 1954 I was transferred to Kessler AFB in Beloxi, Mississippi were I received technical training in the communications field.

Carol and I were married September 25, 1954 in the Base Chapel at Kessler Air Force Base, Beloxi. None of our family were able to attend the wedding, execpt Carol's mother. That is quite a distance to travel, and money was kind of tight at that time.

Upon completion of my Tech School, I was transfered to Stead Air Force, Reno, Nevada, and was assigned to the 1875th AACS, where we worked directly with the Combat Survival Training Unit. This is where I first found out what it was like to be in the Air Force, very interesting.

I  had  "Short Spurt" TDY's to Croughton Air Force Base in England. (Short Spurt TDY was considered any TDY ranging between 1 and 3 months). During the times I was on TDY, Carol and Ed returned home to stay with her parents. She worked at the Wagon Wheel Resort when she was at home.
